Waving the Flag

By November 15, 1769, with the Endeavour having not moved from its mooring off the Purangi River mouth for 12 days, Cook was preparing to leave.

He and his crew, together with his team of scientists and botanists, had all been able to leave the ship freely throughout this time and had taken every opportunity to explore the entire bay area.  While Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander examined and documented the local flora and fauna, and artist Sydney Parkinson helped by drawing the various specimens they collected, Cook had also completed his usual expert charts…
